Decision means it is highly unlikely that they would decide the case before the 2020 election
WEDNESDAY, Jan. 22, 2020 (HealthDay News) — A fast-track review of a lawsuit that threatens the Affordable Care Act was rejected Tuesday by the U.S. Supreme Court.
The court rejected the request by 20 mainly Democratic states and the Democratic-led House of Representatives to rule quickly on a lower-court ruling that struck down the law’s requirement that Americans have health insurance, the Associated Press reported. The justices will consider the appeal on their normal schedule.
Their decision Tuesday means it is highly unlikely that they would decide the case before the 2020 election, the AP reported.
The states’ appeal is being led by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, who said he hopes the Supreme Court eventually agrees to hear the case. “The health and well-being of millions of our loved ones who rely on the ACA for health care is too important,” Becerra said on Twitter.
