Platelet-Rich Plasma, Hyaluronic Acid Improves Aging Facial Skin

Clinically visible, significant improvement noted; number of injections linked to overall satisfaction

MONDAY, Sept. 12, 2016 (HealthDay News) — Injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and hyaluronic acid (HA) is associated with a clinically visible and statistically significant improvement in aging facial skin, according to a study published online Sept. 5 in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.

Betul Gozel Ulusal, M.D., from Balikesir University in Turkey, treated 94 female patients with varying degrees of facial aging signs to treatment with PRP and HA. Patients rated their personal satisfaction with skin texture, pigmentation, and sagging. Three independent physicians and the patients themselves also rated the overall results. The association between the degree of esthetic scores and number of injections was examined.

Ulusal found that according to the patients, there was a significant difference in general appearance, skin firmness-sagging, and skin texture before and after application of PRP. The number of injections was significantly correlated with overall satisfaction.

“Compared to the baseline, the PRP and HA injections provided clinically visible and statistically significant improvement on facial skin,” Ulusal writes. “The improvements were more remarkable as the injection numbers increased.”
